Nick explains how Separation Mediation works
When you are facing the difficulties of separation, it can be helpful to have a family mediator to help you and your ex-partner resolve how your assets are to be divided, who will need ongoing financial support, and what parenting arrangements work best for you.
Where children are involved, central to the discussion is their welfare, and should you wish they can have their own consultation session to have their voice heard.
I hold an initial information session that you attend separately. In this session I take time to hear what your particular concerns are and what you would like to achieve. I also take you through what is expected of you and what you can expect from the mediation process.
Mediation itself takes place with both of you present. It takes around four sessions of 90 minutes to reach agreement and these sessions usually take place over a two month period.
Once agreement is reached I prepare a Memorandum of Understanding from which your solicitor can draw up a consent order.
The initial information session is £80.
Session time is charged at £80/hour per person and includes all administration. The session summaries provided after each session, the Open Financial Statement, and the Memorandum of Understanding.
